Liverpool are closing in on their first Premier League title, and yet eyes are already being cast to next season and what steps Jurgen Klopp could make to improve this history-making side.
The news that Timo Werner will be joining Chelsea was a bitter blow and reflected the fact the Reds do not have the financial clout many fans expect. That doesn’t mean they can’t make changes and even improve the squad.
As defending European champions and soon-to-be Premier League champions the club are linked with a wealth of names, and here are a selection of the latest Liverpool transfer rumours from today.
Liverpool ready to greenlight £54m defender deal
The Reds boast one of the best defences in Europe thanks in no small part to Virgil van Dijk’s presence, but it could be about to get even better, according to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport.
They claim that Jurgen Klopp’s side have made a cut-price offer for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly. The former Metz defender has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, and while under contract until 2023 it is believed Napoli are looking to maximise his value by selling him this summer.
It is believed the Italian giants want in the region of £80million for the defender, and as such, it is unclear if the Reds bid would be enough to tempt them into a sale.
Arsenal youngster drawing interest from Anfield
Liverpool have taken an interest in Bukayo Saka, according to a report from Transfermarkt.
Saka, 18, has been one of Arsenal ’s better players under Mikel Arteta and is highly regarded by those at the club. His current contract at the Emirates expires in 2021, and while he remains in discussions, he has yet to agree an extension. That has put club’s, including Liverpool, on alert to his potential availability next season.
If Saka is unable to agree a new deal with the club, they may seek to sell him this summer to stop him walking away for free next season. The Gunners are believed to be confident of agreeing a new deal with the England U21 international regardless.
Liverpool free to sign World Cup-winning winger
Liverpool are debating a move for Ousmane Dembele, according to Mundo Deportivo.
Dembele, 23, joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund in a big-money deal, but he has struggled to convince at the Nou Camp and is now being linked with a move to Merseyside.
The Reds are in the market for attacking depth after missing out on Timo Werner to Chelsea, and according to the report, Barca will now let Dembele leave for a price of between €50m and €60m.
The French international is contracted to Barcelona until 2022, but his opportunities may be further limited next season if the club completes a deal for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
