Manchester United given Brandon Williams advice ahead of Brighton fixture
Manchester United fans have urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to find a spot in his side for Brandon Williams.
As United prepare to travel to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League on Tuesday night, Solskjaer may be considering wholesale changes – having made eight of them for the FA Cup tie at Norwich on Saturday.
United laboured to a 2-1 victory at Carrow Road, but needed extra time to overcome Daniel Farke’s stubborn side.
Full back Williams was one of the few fringe players to impress at Norwich, coming on for Diogo Dalot at right-back, though whether he’ll get in the side ahead of Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Luke Shaw seems uncertain. It remains to be seen whether Solskjaer will revert to the 11 that started the more comfortable 3-0 win over Sheffield United last Wednesday.
United fans are clearly keen to see more of Williams, who hasn’t yet started a game since football restarted following a three-month lay-off. The 19-year-old had been one of the breakthrough stars of the season.
MEN Sport asked United fans in a Twitter poll: “Which of these Manchester United players most deserves to come into the Premier League side vs Brighton? (Comment for others).”
Williams, Fred, Scott McTominay and Odion Ighalo were the options, with the youngster getting more than 40 per cent of the vote. Ighalo polled 25 per cent, Fred almost 19 per cent and McTominay 15.8 per cent.
Former United defender Wes Brown was one of those to praise Williams’ surprise impact, speaking about the versatile full back in April.
“He’s come from nowhere, really,” Brown told the official United website.
“At the start of the season, a lot of attention was on Mason Greenwood as the next young player to come through because everyone in youth football knew about him. His goalscoring record was fantastic at all levels, plus he had a bit of a taste of the first team last season, so there was an expectation that he’d do well this season. Brandon, though, has come in and hit his stride from the first game he played.
“He was straight into it. Not many people knew who he was, but he’s put in fantastic performances every time he’s played. It’s like he’s been playing at this level for a long time. “
