Colin Murray says Leeds United have every right to have ‘squeakiest bums’

EFL presenter Colin Murray believes Leeds United fans have every right to be nervous heading into the back-end of the season.

Marcelo Bielsa‘s men slipped up on Tuesday night with a draw against strugglers Luton Town, but they are still four points ahead of West Bromwich Albion, who have played a game less, and six ahead of third-place Brentford.

That’s enough for Murray, host of Quest’s EFL highlights show, to fancy Leeds to wrap up their long-awaited return to the Premier League, but he also thinks the Whites have plenty of cause for concern given Brentford’s momentum.

“It’s all about that dotted line,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily Podcast. “People look at who is going to win the title, but six points ahead of Brentford with six games left, an automatic promotion that Leeds fans have craved so much.

“It’s been too long and the pressure they are under, they are a huge club, and that looks good, you would snap the hand off, but you have to remember, Leeds fans have the squeakiest bums of any team in the EFL and rightfully so.

“On and off the pitch, they have been through it all.”

He added: “The team that are in third (Brentford) have come back off the break, beaten two of the top four, kept three clean sheets.

“They lost (Neal) Maupay and (Ezra) Konza for £30m, they have sold more than they have brought in, but their recruitment is better than the British secret service.

“(David) Raya, (Christian) Norgaard, (Pontus) Jansson, (Mathias) Jensen and (Ethan) Pinnock. (Bryan) Mbeumo started the first time since contracting coronavirus tonight and was brilliant, scored the goal.

“They have such momentum with a new stadium next year.

“They are eating up the ground on that dotted line and that’s why tonight’s results will leave them (Leeds) feeling a little bit precarious despite the gap.”

Speaking about the draw with Luton, Murray said: “They did what Leeds do, 76 per cent possession, 23 shots on goal, it was an onslaught in the last 20 minutes.

“They will go up automatically, but I don’t support Leeds and if you do, you are in a dark room right now.”
