Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has sensationally confirmed that highly-coveted midfielder Thiago Alcantara wants to leave.

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed Thiago wants to leave the club
His contract had been set to expire in 2021, and Bayern may now be forced into scrambling for a potential buyer this summer rather than allowing him to slip away on a free transfer a year later.
And Rummenigge has now conceded to Bild that Bayern are adamant they will recoup a fee.
He said: ‘He’s a great guy on and off the pitch. We negotiated with him and met all of his wishes.
‘But Thiago Alcantara wants to leave. It looks like he may want to do something new at the end of his career.
The Bundesliga champions’ CEO confirmed that Bayern will recoup a transfer fee for the star
‘We don’t want to lose a player for free next year. I say that very clearly.’
Thiago moved to the Bavarian outfit in 2013 and has helped them to secure seven consecutive league titles.
The disruption among the management team, which saw Niko Kovac fired and Hansi Flick hired as his successor, appears to have not affected Thiago’s standing at the club either.
He has made 35 appearances across all competitions this season, and has unsurprisingly attracted admiring glances from several elite clubs across the continent.
Liverpool may swoop for the 29-year-old midfielder this summer but haven’t made contact
Among them are Liverpool, although Rummenigge has denied being contacted by the club after their first league title in three decades was sealed.
He added: ‘We haven’t had any contact with Liverpool.’
Sky Sport Italia reporter Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Thiago ‘would love’ to move to Anfield – and that Liverpool would also be interested in brokering a switch.
However, Thiago may also be welcomed back to Barcelona should he desire a return to Spain.
