Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that they could be without two players for the FA Cup semi-final clash with Chelsea next weekend.
The two clubs face off at Wembley with the aim of making it to the final of the cup competition, but with both clubs also going for the two remaining Champions League spots at the end of the season, it could also be a chance to get one over on their direct rivals before the final two games of the campaign.
Manchester United were in action on Monday night, as they conceded a 96th-minute equaliser to draw 2-2 with Southampton at Old Trafford.
But that goal wasn’t the only blow handed to United that day, with Luke Shaw leaving the field having injured his ankle before his replacement Brandon Williams was forced off after a facial injury.
It meant that United played the last few minutes of the game with 10-men.
Talking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Premier League clash against Crystal Palace, Solskjaer confirmed that both players are being assessed.
“Luke has got a swollen ankle,” he said as reported by Manchester Evening News .
“I’ll give him as much time as possible to recover. It was a twisted ankle. Brandon cut up his eye.
“I don’t really know. None of them trained yesterday, they were both swollen and I’ll give them as much time as possible to let the swelling go away.
“The team selection for Thursday is based on Thursday, not Sunday. Sunday is irrelevant, it does not come into my head at all, just Thursday. We will see with the injury situation.
Should both players be unavailable, it gives United a problem in the left-back role, with the squad not having another recognised player in that position.
