- United are two points off the top six with two games remaining
- Match of the Day pundits’ praise for ‘honest’ Wilder
‘You’ve got to love Chris Wilder’ – Here’s what the Match of the Day pundits said about boss’ honest appraisal of Blades performance.
Chris Wilder was scathing in his assessment of his players after last night’s defeat to Leicester and it impressed the Match of the Day pundits, who described the approach as ‘refreshing’.
Jermaine Jenas said of Wilder and United: “You’ve got to love Chris Wilder for his honesty. They were just off it today. You can’t go too hard into their performances this season because they have been absolutely brilliant all year. He’s rightly admitted that looking at them today they just didn’t have that sharpness. He made change after change to try and get them going. It just wasn’t their day.”
And England women’s team boss and former Manchester United and Everton player Phil Neville said of the comments from Wilder: “You don’t see many managers doing it, that’s what stands him out, because of his honesty. It’s refreshing. I think sometimes as a manager you go out and speak to the public and try and protect the team and sugarcoat your own performances; I think that’s why he’s loved by everyone because he goes out there and says it as it is.”
There’s a ‘morning after the night before’ feel about the place today following last night’s defeat. As James Shield said in his post-match analysis, it’s a blow but not a fatal one.
We’ll bring you more reaction to that defeat as well as all the other news from around Bramall Lane, here on the blog right throughout the day.
