Brighton & Hove Albion have won the race to sign Adam Lallana on a free transfer from Liverpool by offering him a longer deal with the possibility of a move into coaching at the end of his playing career.

The Athletic understands the 32-year-old former England midfielder will sign a three-year contract and take a cut on his estimated £100,000-a-week wages at Anfield to team up with Brighton’s ambitious Premier League project under head coach Graham Potter. The club’s long-term goal is to establish themselves in the top 10 in the top-flight.

Brighton see Lallana as the type of high-quality capture to enhance their development from a side destined to finish in the bottom six for the third season in succession.
