English Football League: Who are the 11 players who could step up to the Premier

The Sky Bet Championship is among the most exciting leagues in the world.

If you weren’t convinced, all you needed to do was tune in to the final day of the season where there were twists and turns right up until the 98th minute.

If the season has taught us anything it’s that any club in the second tier is capable of playing in the Premier League as the over spill of top talent continues to trickle down the football pyramid.

But of course only three teams can be promoted to the top flight.

Leeds United and West Brom have already secured their place in the Premier League, while four others are competing in the play-offs in the hope of cementing that final spot.

But while those teams dream of a place in the most high profile league in the world, it’s a much more anxious wait for the other clubs.

There’s plenty of players capable of making that step up outside of the two teams who have already been promoted, and it’s almost inevitable that several clubs will be fielding calls for their most talented players.

Here we take a look at the players outside of Leeds United and West Brom who could be snapped up by a Premier League club this summer.

Said Benrahma

Regarded as arguably the best player outside of the Premier League, Said Benrahma looks like a top flight player in waiting.

Brentford have aspirations of reaching the top flight through the play-offs, but should they miss out then I don’t think the Algerian has much to worry about.

You’d imagine that Benrahma will be gracing the Premier League next term – regardless of what happens to Thomas Frank’s side in the coming days.

Eberechi Eze

What a talent this lad is.

After being discarded by Millwall, the 22-year-old has established himself as a talisman at Queens Park Rangers.

With 14 goals and nine assists this term, it’s no surprise that the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and Crystal Palace are sniffing around the £20m-rated man.

Ollie Watkins

After reinventing himself as an out-and-out striker, the Brentford man hasn’t looked back.

Watkins has scored 25 goals so far this term for the Bees and will be crucial to helping the club to play-off glory.

Should Thomas Frank’s side fall short, you can be sure that several clubs in the bottom half of the Premier League will be making calls to the high-flyers.

John Swift

He’s been the main man at Reading since arriving at the club in 2016.

But after a campaign which saw him score six and create 10, there’s a chance that the Royals could be preparing to offload the midfielder.

Sheffield United are one team who have been heavily linked, and it’ll be interesting to see whether Mark Bowen cashes in with the club under financial pressure.

Matthew Cash

Regarded as one of the most talented wing-backs in the Championship, the Nottingham Forest man can be a real handful.

Cash is crucial to how Sabri Lamouchi’s side play, but after missing out on a spot in the play-offs they could find it difficult to keep hold of…
