Man Utd transfer roundup: Smalling Roma boost, Sancho update, two tipped to exit

Manchester United took another step towards Europa League success this week with a 2-1 victory over Austrian side LASK at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have enjoyed a good season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during which they confirmed their spot in the Champions League next season.

A Europa League trophy would be a bonus for Solskjaer and his players as they continue to rebuild this squad. Fans are already excited for next season and are debating which players Solskjaer will try to add to his squad.

With that in mind here are the latest transfer rumours.

Smalling hopeful of reviving Man Utd exit deal

Roma may now be able to make Chris Smalling’s move permanent

Chris Smalling has received a boost in his attempts to return to Roma.

The former Fulham defender has enjoyed a fine season on loan in Serie A and was keen to continue his stay in the Eternal City.

The Italians were keen to bring the defender in, but have been unable to agree a deal with Manchester United, who are reported to want €20million (£18m) for the England international.

The report states that the club will now have extra money available to them following a takeover from Texas-based billionaire Dan Friedkin.

Friedkin is said to be setting the club’s budget at €80m (£72m), which should facilitate a move for Smalling. The club are also planning departures, with Cengiz Ünder, Patrik Schick and Alessandro Florenzi all believed to be available.

After the game, Scholes noted the substitutions of Fred and goalscorer Lingard just after the hour mark, and says it doesn’t look good for their United prospects.

Scholes told BT Sport: “Tonight was a game where you think this is a chance for Jesse to play 90 minutes, along with Fred, and when Ole took him off after an hour, I thought then that this is a sign that Ole is probably thinking of moving him on.”

He added: “And possibly with Fred as well, maybe the same situation, he might be thinking of offloading the pair of them.”

Sancho deal ‘is a question of when, not if’

A decision could be made on Jadon Sancho in the next two weeks

Manchester United will sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer – and it’s a question of when, rather than if a deal can be agreed.
