Arsenal set to battle Everton and Roma for the signing of Napoli’s £13 million contract-rebel.
Arsenal manager Arteta is focusing on rebuilding his defensive set up this summer. The Gunners are ready to splash big this transfer window, which is not their usual thing. The Gunners are looking for strong reinforcements after their recent success in their FA Cup campaign. However, the Spaniard is ready to offload deadwood to raise funds to sign their new targets.
According to CalcioNapoli24, Arsenal joins the race to sign Napoli’s centre-back Nikola Maksimovic alongside Everton and AS Roma. The versatile defender’s value is £13 million, which is quite a deal for all three clubs in a race. The centre-back had a good loan stint with the Russian side Spartak Moscow.
The six-feet tall defender could be the right man for Arsenal, who are in search of a defender. The 28-year-old defender can be signed for a cut-price, who can occupy the right half at the back for Arsenal. While their prime target Gabriel Magalhaes is a left-footed central defender. The combination of Gabriel and Maksimovic could prove to be a game-changer with their current form. However, both these players won’t break the bank in terms of the transfer fees.
Both Gabriel Magalhaes and Maksimovic combined price would be around £35 million. However, the amount is just half of which spent by Manchester United on Harry Maguire. Both centre-backs working together at the back for Arsenal will for sure be a dream for Gooners. Arteta is keen to sign Gabriel from France and the defender asked two weeks’ time to make his decision.
Ancelotti wants a reunion with Makismovic
Former Torino defender was a key player under Ancelotti at Napoli. The defender was a promising player back then and didn’t fail to impress the fellow fans at Naples. The 28-year-old defender is now available for thirteen million euros and Ancelotti wants to sign him. Maksimovic is a right-footed centre-back, who has the natural physicality to tackle the opponents.
Nikola Maksimovic recently got his call-up to represent Serbia for their upcoming Nations League games. The defender rejected the new contract offered by Napoli with Maksimovic’s contract coming to an end next year. As a result, the Neapolitan club couldn’t meet the demands of a £35,000-a-week deal for a tall Serbian defender.
Ancelotti would love to see Colombian Yerry Mina and Maksimovic team-up together at the back for Everton. English Premier League side is looking to bolster their defense and Maksimovic is a cheaper option for the Merseyside club. The Neapolitan club wants to keep hold of the defender, however, Maksimovic wants a move away from Stadio San Paolo.
