Transfers LIVE! VdB to Man United; Messi, Rice, Gabriel, Thiago latest

Welcome to Standard Sport’s rolling coverage of the summer transfer window as the speculation ramps up.

The window officially opened in July after the completion of the delayed 2019-2020 Premier League season. Clubs will now be busy tweaking their squads ahead of the new campaign, with the deadline pushed back until October 5.

Arsenal have added Willian and are closing in on the signing of Gabriel Magalhaes, while Chelsea have added Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell to a squad already boasting new arrivals Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Manchester United continue to work on a deal for Jadon Sancho though Donny van de Beek looks like an easier deal, and Tottenham have signed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty.

Liverpool are biding their time in pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, but the biggest story is that Lionel Messi has requested to leave Barcelona.

Live Updates

Messi a no-show

Lionel Messi did not attend his PCR test with Barcelona today, according to Marca.

Reuters footage showed players arriving for coronavirus tests on Sunday morning, and Messi did not appear.

He had been due at Barcelona’s training ground at 9:15am BST. Players had been given staggered appointments throughout the morning until midday.

Here’s a shot of new head coach Ronald Koeman arriving for his medical – not exactly the start he’s been hoping for, you’d imagine!

Matt Doherty reaction

“I’m very proud to be joining such a big club,” Doherty said.

“(They have) the best stadium in the world and possibly the best training ground in the world from what I’ve seen.

“My time at Wolves was fantastic, I haven’t got a bad word to say about the whole club at all.”
