EFL will look into circumstances surrounding Crewe Alexandra postponement

THE English Football League (EFL) will look into the circumstances surrounding yesterday’s postponement at the Kassam Stadium.

After contacting being contacted by the Oxford Mail this morning, the EFL confirmed they would be following up on the decision in the next few days.

That is a matter of routine for any fixtures which are postponed, whether it is coronavirus-related or down to weather factors.

Only after the preliminary questions will it be decided if a formal investigation has to take place.

United’s main issue centred around why they were only informed after Crewe had arrived at the ground.

When announcing at 2.30pm the game had been called off, the Railwaymen’s official Twitter feed said: “We are unable to fulfil today’s fixture against Oxford United due to one of our players being notified this morning that he is COVID-19 Positive.”

But there does not appear to be anything in the guidance to clubs stating how quickly news of a positive test has to be communicated to the opposition, suggesting Crewe had not broken any EFL rules.
