Georginio Wijnaldum has addressed the speculation surrounding his future this summer, stating that Barcelona‘s interest in him was not ‘serious’.
The Liverpool midfielder was heavily linked with a move to the Nou Camp to link up with his former international boss Ronald Koeman following the Dutch manager’s arrival in Spain.
Earlier this summer Wijnaldum also entered the final year of his contract at the Premier League champions, however the midfielder has admitted he was not close to a departure.

‘I don’t think it was that serious,’ he said. ‘Otherwise you would have read a bit more, or more would have happened.
‘There was nothing precise. The way it looks now, I will stay in Liverpool.
‘My contract is valid for another 10 months and that can change. You never know in football. We will see what happens.’

Wijnaldum has become an integral part of the success at the Merseyside giants, missing just one game in their Premier League-winning season. He has also played all four Premier League matches this campaign.
In the 2018-19 season he was instrumental in Liverpool’s sensational 4-0 comeback win over Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final at Anfield with two second-half goals.
Wijnaldum is a player Koeman knows well from his two-year stint as Holland boss. The midfielder was in a rich vein of form for his country in 2019, scoring eight goals in nine appearances.
