According to Claret and Hugh, Watford centre-back Craig Dawson could cost West Ham absolutely nothing. This is because the Hammers are entitled to significant compensation from the Hornets after Jeremy Ngakia left the London Stadium for Vicarage Road a couple of months ago.
The 20-year-old left West Ham for nothing to link up with Watford.
When a professional footballer under the age of 24 is offered a new contract by his club and he rejects that offer in order to take up the opportunity to sign for another club, compensation is due to be payed.
Many West Ham fans were angry with the board for not offering Ngakia more money. But what’s done is done.
Now the Hammers’ focus is on signing an established centre-back. And Sky Sports claims that the east London outfit are closing in on a deal to sign Watford’s Craig Dawson.
Not many West Ham fans are overly excited about the prospect of the 30-year-old centre-back arriving at the London Stadium.
He doesn’t seem to fit into David Moyes’s self confessed vision for the Hammers either.
But it seems as though there could be a very good reason why we are trying to sign Dawson.
Claret and Hugh claims that the Watford centre-back could cost West Ham absolutely nothing because the Hammers are entitled to significant compensation from the Hornets after Jeremy Ngakia’s transfer to the Hertfordshire club.
It certainly makes sense. We know our owners’ love of a bargain. With money tight in east London, the opportunity to sign Dawson for nothing may be too good to refuse.
And at the end of the day, signing the 30-year-old on a free wouldn’t be the worst move from West Ham.
