Report: Nottingham Forest set to add Nick Colgan to backroom team

Nottingham Forest are set to appoint Wigan Athletic goalkeeping coach Nick Colgan to work on Chris Hughton’s backroom team, according to reports.

The 61-year-old replaced Sabri Lamouchi last week and has already added Paul Trollope as his assistant manager going forward.

Now he’s set to turn to Colgan who enjoyed a solid career as a player in the Football League as the man to oversee his goalkeeping department.

The former Republic of Ireland international made one appearance for Chelsea before enjoying long-term spells at Barnsley and Hibs.

After finishing his playing career in 2011 he took up a coaching role at Huddersfield Town, becoming the first-team goalkeeping coach in 2014.

Following the Terriers winning promotion to the Premier League in 2017, Colgan was sacked and was taken on by Wigan in the same capacity.

The fact he was part of a backroom team that helped Huddersfield achieve the seemingly impossible dream of reaching the top-flight could have been instrumental in Hughton wanting him.

With his first game against Blackburn Rovers coming up on the horizon, Hughton will want to get a settled team of coaches in place as quickly as possible.

Colgan will be a welcome addition to the Forest coaching ranks.

He will get to work with improving the likes of Brice Samba, Abdoulaye Diallo and Jordan Smith.

Samba is firmly established as the number one goalkeeper and has made solid saves in games against Huddersfield and Bristol City this season.

Hughton is likely to target one more coach for his backroom team and that could be something he gets sorted in the near future.
