Josh Knight praised after making Championship debut

Leicester City academy graduate Josh Knight has been praised by Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth after making his debut for the Championship side.

The 23-year-old signed for Wycombe on deadline day, securing a loan move until January in order to continue to build first-team experience in the Championship.

And the Chairboys threw Knight into action straight away, naming him in their starting lineup for the league game against Millwall as Adams Park, a game where Wycombe fell to a 2-1 defeat thanks to goals from Jed Wallace and Ryan Leonard.

However, despite the loss, Ainsworth was full of praise for Knight’s performance in his Championship debut.

“I thought Josh Knight was really good, very accomplished and he is making the step up to the Championship,” he said after the game (via Bucks Free Press).

“Leicester have got a good player on their hands, and hopefully we’ll be able to embed him in like we have done with other players in the past.”

Knight has spent the last season and half on loan at League One side Peterborough United, playing a total of 34 times for the Posh over the period.

The centre-back has also made one first-team appearance for City, coming on as a late substitute in the 4-1 Carabao Cup win over Sheffield United back in 2018.

He has also been an unused substitute in a number of games, including the third round League Cup loss against Arsenal at the start of the season.

Knight will be hoping to continue to impress at Adams Park before pushing for a place in the first-team squad at the King Power Stadium when he returns to the club in January
