Chelsea evening headlines as Mourinho discusses failed Messi bid
Good evening, Chelsea fans. Here are your evening headlines for Sunday, October 18.
Chelsea tipped to become a ‘real problem’
Ian Wright believes Timo Werner and his Chelsea teammates are going to be a “real problem” in the Premier League if they can eradicate their defensive mistakes.
The Blues produced an enthralling 3-3 draw against Southampton on Saturday thanks to a first-half brace from Werner.
Speaking on Match Of The Day, Wright said he was confident they will be the first of many for the former RB Leipzig striker.

“When I’ve watched him he doesn’t look too fussed about the fact he hasn’t scored,” Wright said. “You saw him there talking about how he hadn’t scored in four, but it’s the movement and the runs he’s making.
“This one (offside goal) he was a little bit eager, I thought he could have maybe taken his time and had a look at the defender, but this (his first goal) is all his own work. He’s had a little look at the defender who has totally over-committed himself and bang.
“Once he gets into this situation you can almost feel like he’s not even thinking to do anything else other than getting that half a yard to get the shot. He does it and scores his first goal.”
He added: “Like I said, I never worry about someone like him (Werner) not getting his goals, and in the end, he sets up his teammate Kai Havertz.
“Once they get it going they are going to be a real problem, but they are going to have to cut out the mistakes because going forward they look really dangerous.”
Mourinho coy on Chelsea deal with Messi
Jose Mourinho has responded to claims he convinced Lionel Messi to join Chelsea in 2014.
This comes after reports emerged in the national media that Mourinho had sold Messi on the idea of moving to Stamford Bridge during his second spell at the club.
Speaking to Soccer AM’s Tubes, Mourinho said: “I never speak about my history and what I lived in previous clubs. I don’t think I can write a book like Arsene Wenger did to speak about these kind of situations.
“What happened, happened. To write a book you have to write about everything but there are many things you don’t want to talk about.”
Former Blue delivers stark verdict on Havertz
Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has revealed he is not convinced by new signing Kai Havertz.
Havertz arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer from Bayer Leverkusen and struck during the 3-3 draw with Southampton at the weekend.
But Leboeuf has had his say on the German and revealed he is not entirely convinced after his arrival.
