Derby County man makes honest admission as they gear up for Nottingham Forest
Derby County forward Martyn Waghorn has admitted that the team need to bounce back from last night’s disappointing defeat when they take on rivals Nottingham Forest on Friday.
The Rams have endured a hugely tough start to the season, with a 1-0 loss at Huddersfield the fifth defeat in six league games for Phillip Cocu’s men.
As a result, the pressure is starting to build on the Dutch boss and it will intensify if they fail to win the East Midlands derby later this week.
And, taking to Instagram, Waghorn, who played his first minutes of the campaign as a sub last night, acknowledged things aren’t good enough.
“Not the result we wanted tonight, only us as a team can put this right. We have a big game on Friday to put in a performance and get a result we need moving forward. Delighted to be back but the work continues to improve.”
Derby will need to end a dismal run at Forest if they are to pick up three points as they are eight without a win at the City Ground.
The verdict
Clearly, the Rams have had an awful start and whilst injuries haven’t helped, they should still be doing better.
So, it’s an honest message from Waghorn and something the fans will appreciate, particularly as he hasn’t been involved up until last night.
As he says, the focus is now on Forest and there wouldn’t be a better game for Derby to kickstart their season than by winning at their bitter rivals.
