Southampton line up move for Acrrington ace Savin – EXCLUSIVE

Southampton are lining up a move for Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Toby Savin, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 19-year-old has established himself as the number one at the League One club after an outstanding start to the season.

He signed a new three-year contract just days after making his league debut last month for Accrington.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Southampton have been alerted to Savin’s performances and are closely monitoring his situation.

They are plotting a move for the young keeper, who is already part of the England set-up.

In November of last year, Savin received a call-up to the England goalkeeping development camp at St George’s Park.

The youngster joined Accrington in 2017 and broke into the first team last season, when he made two appearances in the EFL Trophy.

He has started all seven of Stanley’s league matches this term as well as their EFL Cup defeat to Burton Albion and both of their EFL Trophy fixtures.

Southampton’s interest in Savin comes after Angus Gunn, 24, completed a loan move to Stoke City on the final day of the domestic window on 16 October.

He had slipped to third in the pecking order at St Mary’s in the new campaign behind number one Alex McCarthy and his deputy Fraser Forster.

McCarthy has started all six of Southampton’s Premier League matches this season as well as their League Cup clash against Brentford.

In other news, Southampton have held talks over signing Newcastle United player at the peak of his powers.
