Leeds backed as they’re linked with fresh move for EFL talent

Danny Mills has told Leeds United to get a deal done for Wigan Athletic youngster Sean McGurk as they look to bolster their options in their academy.

The Whites have got a good set-up away from the first-team and we have seen them make great strides in terms of its development in recent seasons.

Indeed, it’s clear to see when you look at the category one status that they have achieved recently but Mills feels now is the time to add McGurk to that and bring in further players besides.

The Sun has claimed that Leeds are going to make a renewed attempt to sign him and, as quoted by Football Insider, Mills is backing the Whites to move for him.

The former United defender said:

“They need him, they need to sign more players.

“Leeds have lacked numbers at the lower levels, from the under-23 and under-18 down.

“They need more players in now that they are a Category One academy so that they can fulfil all of their fixtures and be competitive within those.”

The Verdict

Leeds have already managed to sign young players from Wigan in recent months with Joe Gelhardt making the switch during the last transfer window.

Athletic have some good young players coming through but had to lose them all pretty much because of their administration situation.

McGurk could be the latest to leave, then, and it remains to be seen just what the Whites offer if and when they do make a renewed attempt to bring him to Yorkshire.
