- Matyas Esterhazy said ‘Arsenal’s interest is real’ during an event in Hungary
Arsenal are reportedly interested in RB Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai after missing out on Lyon playmaker Houssem Aouar in the summer.
The Gunners were linked with a bid for centre midfielder Szoboszlai in the summer window but the Hungarian pledged his short-term future to the Austrian club after they qualified for the Champions League.
But now the 20-year-old is being targeted by Mikel Arteta in January after his agent confirmed Arsenal’s interest ‘in the hallway’ of a business panel discussion at the offices of the Hungarian edition of Forbes magazine, according to Hungarian outlet Index.

The Gunners are keen to add creativity in midfield after missing out on Lyon’s Houssem Aouar
When questioned on the situation of his client Szoboszlai, agent Matyas Esterhazy reportedly said: ‘Arsenal’s interest is real.’
Esterhazy also dismissed reported interest from AC Milan, but did add that Szoboszlai would at this point like to remain in the ‘German-speaking world.’
RB Salzburg are of course associated with sister club RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga, who also play in the Champions League.
Many players have made the move from Salzburg in Leipzig in recent years, including stars such as Naby Keita and Dayot Upamecano.
Szoboszlai has made 73 appearances for Salzburg despite being just 20, scoring 22 goals in all competitions.

Manager Mikel Arteta is still on the lookout for midfield reinforcements in the transfer market
He made his debut at the age of 17 in May 2018 and scored on his Champions League debut last season in the 6-2 win against Genk, a match famous for fellow youngster Erling Haaland’s hat-trick.
He has also recorded 10 caps for the Hungarian national team, scoring twice.
Meanwhile, Arteta’s primary focus will be on Sunday as the Gunners host Aston Villa in their final game before the international break.
