Gary Mabbutt thinks one ‘incredible’ Spurs decision has ‘changed the dynamics’
Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Mabbutt has told We Are Tottenham TV that Spurs’ decision to re-sign Gareth Bale has “changed the dynamics” in the team dressing room.
Bale rejoined Tottenham in the summer on a loan deal from Real Madrid, seven years after completing a then world record £86million deal to the Spanish club.
During his time at the Bernabeu, the Welshman made 251 competitive appearances, scoring 105 goals, claiming 68 assists and winning a multitude of trophies.

However, Bale’s future at Real had looked in doubt for a while after the player fell out of favour under Zinedine Zidane, making just 20 appearances last season including 12 La Liga starts.
Over the years, speculation linking Bale and Spurs has been a fairly regular occurrence, though there was usually little substance to it in the past, but this year it became reality.
And Mabbutt believes that his arrival had a positive effect on the dressing room and, with all the developments over the summer, it’s an exciting time to be a Spurs fan.
“[After] the first two games… I was very concerned,” Mabbutt told We Are Tottenham TV.
“But what is incredible [is] – I’m not sure if people realise it – just the re-signing of Gareth Bale, the impact that has had, how it’s changed the dynamics in the dressing room, the belief of the players.”
“We’ve now got a manager that has won 25 titles; we’ve brought in Joe Hart, who has won many titles; we’ve brought in Gareth, who has won everything; and so adding that to the squad that we’ve got.
“Plus, we’ve had the best transfer window we’ve had for a long time, and when I look at our squad now, I’m very excited and watching the games recently, I think things are starting to fall into place.”
TBR View:
It’s not exactly been plain sailing for Spurs this season, but with the international break now upon us, things are looking incredibly bright, the club sitting second in the table, in the quarter-finals of the League Cup and with six points from three games in the Europa League.
Bale’s arrival saw the media spotlight shine brightly on N17 and, with the player now back to full fitness and regaining match fitness, there’s much more to come from him in terms of bolstering what is already one of the most powerful attacks in the league.
