Rangers will soon learn their League Cup opponents as the draw for the Last 16 of the competition is scheduled to take place on Sunday evening [SPFL.com].

The Gers last won the trophy in 2011 but came agonisingly close last season, losing 1-0 to Celtic at a sodden Hampden Park, despite dominating the majority of the game.

Steven Gerrard will be looking to go one better this season and his side’s effort will get underway later this month.

The final group stage matches take place this week and the action concludes on Sunday as Hibernian face Dundee in a 4:30pm kick-off at Easter Road.

The Last 16 draw will take place after that fixture, with the big guns finally entering the fray.

All four clubs that took part in European qualifiers were exempt from the group stages but Rangers, Celtic, Aberdeen and Motherwell will soon join 12 other teams in the pot.

Those 12 teams will consist of the eight group winners and the four best runners-up.

Rangers will fancy their chances against any opponent, given that they remain unbeaten in all competitions this season..

However, they were drawn against East Fife at this stage last year and another tie against lower league opposition would likely be welcomed.

The Last 16 fixtures are scheduled to take place on the weekend of 28/29th November.
