Man City equalled a 113-year-old English football record with Burnley win
Manchester City’s drubbing of Burnley this afternoon saw the Citizens etch their name into the history books of English football, at the expense of the off-colour Clarets.
Citizens run riot
Pep Guardiola’s men welcomed Sean Dyche and co. to the Etihad a short time ago, for a Premier League clash.
The hosts headed into proceedings with their tails up, having booked their spot in the knockout stage of the Champions League with a 1-0 win over Olympiacos during the week.
And, when all was said and done in Manchester this afternoon, City, after falling to defeat at Tottenham last weekend, also got their domestic form back on track.
An absolutely dominant performance on the part of the Sky Blues eventually saw Burnley downed by 5 goals to nil.
Riyad Mahrez proved the star of the show, bagging a superb hat-trick, his first in the colours of the Manchester giants.

Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres, meanwhile, were also on target either side of the interval, rounding out an altogether comfortable afternoon’s work for City and Guardiola.

Making history
As outlined above, though, City’s latest win over Burnley did not just prove significant in moving the Citizens back into the top half of the Premier League table.
In fact, it also saw the Etihad outfit etch their names into English football history, in frankly remarkable fashion.
As revealed in the aftermath of this afternoon’s clash, City have now beaten Burnley by at least 5 goals on the last 4 occasions they have faced the Clarets in Manchester.
This marks only the 2nd time such a feat has been achieved in English football history, with the first having come all the way back in 1907:
