  • Belgian is set to miss four crucial games in LaLiga and Champions League
  • It’s the eighth injury setback he has suffered since £88m move from Chelsea
  • Including positive Covid-19 test last month, Hazard has been sidelined for 35 games since he moved to the Bernabeu club

Eden Hazard faces yet another spell on the sidelines after the Real Madrid winger suffered a thigh injured that will rule him out for three weeks.

The Belgian, who cost Real an initial £88million when they signed him from Chelsea in 2019, has managed to play just six matches this season amid injury issues and a positive coronavirus test.

This is the eighth injury blow Hazard, 29, has suffered since making his move to the Bernabeu.

His latest setback came in Real’s 2-1 home defeat to Alaves on Saturday night when he left the action after just 28 minutes.

An ultrasound test on Sunday proved inconclusive so Hazard was sent for an MRI scan on Monday. This confirmed a problem with the rectus femoris muscle of his right leg.

‘Following tests carried out today on our player, Eden Hazard, by Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with an injury in the rectus femoris muscle of his right leg,’ a club statement said.

‘His recovery will continue to be assessed.’

The expected three-week recovery will see Hazard absent for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Shakhtar Donetsk, this Saturday’s LaLiga visit to Sevilla, the concluding Champions League group game against Borussia Monchengladbach on December 9 and the derby with Atletico Madrid on December 12.
