Lionel Messi transfer warning issued to PSG by ex-Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has warned PSG against upsetting their “balance” by signing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

Messi, 33, is heavily linked with a move to PSG when his contract at the Nou Camp expires at the end of the season.

Speculation he could join the Ligue 1 giants escalated last week when his former Barca teammate Neymar said : “What I want most is to play with [Messi] again.”

But alongside Neymar, PSG already boast a wealth of attacking talent with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Mauro Icardi.

And Wenger questioned whether PSG should fund a move for Messi and risk jeopardising their financial and on-pitch stability.

Wenger believes PSG would be unwise to upset their “balance” by signing Messi

“Lionel Messi is one of the two best players in the world,” Wenger told Europe 1 . “Those who will replace Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi are already at PSG.

“After that, it’s a question of balance in the club, a technical balance and a financial balance. Can you keep the balance at PSG by bringing in players like Messi? I’m not sure.”

Messi is expected to leave Catalonia next summer

PSG have already secured their qualification to the Champions League knock-out stage, while their final group stage game will resume on Wednesday after a case of alleged racism suspended the fixture on Tuesday.

But their domestic form has not been so impressive and they have already lost three times in Ligue 1 this season.

Within their last three league games, PSG were beaten 3-2 by Monaco and held to a 2-2 draw by Bordeaux.

Wenger insisted the Parisians are struggling with a lack of creativity in midfield, adding: “PSG have a little less potential because they had, for years, an absolutely flamboyant midfield, which is now a little less creative.

“I see them a little less dominant and it’s reflected in the standings in Ligue 1. They still have exceptional players who can make a difference in key moments, as we saw again at [the 3-1 win at] Manchester United.”
