Liverpool rip up their transfer plans as they look towards the January transfer

Liverpool have shifted their position ahead of next month’s transfer window and are now actively looking to add to the squad by targeting players with specific characteristics.

It was an outlay that exceeded the club’s initial transfer spending projection, with manager Jurgen Klopp convinced the additions handed him a chance to compete in all competitions this season.

Season-ending injuries affecting defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez did not immediately alter Liverpool’s transfer plans, with the club hoping they could navigate a path to success this season without further investment.

Yet ongoing injury issues for central defender Joel Matip have forced a change of heart and have now been told that Liverpool are actively looking to bolster their squad next month, as they look to sign a young defender with top tier experience in the English game.

While Liverpool have been linked with RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and Schalke’s Ozan Kabak are players of interest to Liverpool, the prospect of signing the duo in January and asking them to acclimatize quickly to the English game is not seen as likely.
