Former Newcastle and England striker Alan Shearer has urged Arsenal to “have faith” in Mikel Arteta despite a poor start to the season.
The Gunners are currently 15th and without a win in seven Premier League games following their latest defeat, against Everton last weekend.
Arteta is now under growing pressure ahead of a Carabao Cup tie with Manchester City and a Premier League clash with Chelsea, but Shearer believes Arsenal have bigger problems than their manager and that they should give the Spaniard time.
“They were impressive in the way they won the FA Cup in beating Manchester City and then Chelsea to go and get that FA Cup and things looked very good,” he told Coral.
“They looked like a team that cared and that wanted to play for the manager. Now, fast-forward four or five months from there and you are seeing a totally different Arsenal team.
“You are seeing an Arsenal team with no creativity, an Arsenal team that cannot put the ball in the back of the net, just don’t create any chances.
“I think it’s more than that. When you look at some of the signings Arsenal have made over the last 18 months, then I think that tells its own story with players getting contracts, players coming into the football club and with the manager deciding Ozil is not good enough to be in the squad of 25.
“When you put that all together, you have a football club with a lot of problems.

Defending Arteta, Shearer added: “They need to stay calm and have faith in their manager. They need to give him time, a budget in January and then again at the end of the season.
“With the problems Arsenal have had, it’s not going to change in six months or 12 months, it’s going to take a while to get that football club back to where they want to be.”
