Tom Lawrence’s ankle problem will keep him out of Derby County’s Championship clash against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on New Year’s Day.
The Welsh international has missed the last three games due to the injury he suffered in the goalless draw against Stoke City earlier this month.
He sat out last night’s 4-0 victory over Birmingham City at St Andrew’s and also the win against Swansea City and the home defeat by Preston North End.
Asked for an update on Lawrence, interim manager Wayne Rooney said: “He won’t be involved for the next game (Sheffield Wednesday), and hopefully he will be back for the FA Cup game.
“So disappointment, but again it is a chance for other players, like tonight (against Birmingham), to come in and impress me.”
Derby are away to sixth-tier side Chorley, the second lowest-ranked outfit left in the competition, in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday, January 9.
