Euro 2020: Germany midfielder Toni Kroos ‘to RETIRE from national team’ aged 31
Toni Kroos ‘to RETIRE from German national team’ aged just 31 after seeing Euro 2020 hopes ended by England at Wembley… with an announcement ‘imminent’ for Real Madrid midfielder
Toni Kroos has reportedly played his last game for Germany, with the 31-year-old ready to announce his international retirement ‘imminently’.
The Real Madrid midfielder has previously intimated that he has no plans to stretch out his career late into his late thirties.
Now it appears he will stay true to his word, with German outlet Bild reporting that Kroos is ready to step away from the national team after Euro 2020.

Kroos played every minute at the tournament but could do little to stop Joachim Low’s team being beaten by England at Wembley.
‘It was an even game until England’s opener,’ he said afterwards.
‘Both teams cancelled each other out. We got out of a tough group, but it hurts a lot to go home now.’
Kroos failed to register a shot on target during the tournament but if Euro 2020 was to be his final outing for Germany he has enjoyed a prestigious career for Die Mannschaft.

The Real Madrid midfielder has won 106 caps for Germany, placing him joint seventh on the all-time national team appearance list alongside former Bayern Munich team-mate Thomas Muller.
Kroos currently boasts one more cap than 1990 World Cup winner Jurgen Kohler (105) but remains two caps behind former German national team boss Jurgen Klinsmann (108), who was part of the BBC Sport team at Wembley to see Germany’s defeat.
For Germany, Kroos has managed 17 goals, the most famous of which was a free-kick against Sweden at the 2018 World Cup – a clear Goal of the Tournament contender.
Kroos has a World Cup win on his resume having been part of the side that lifted the trophy after a victory against Lionel Messi’s Argentina in 2014.
While German fans wait for confirmation on Kroos’ retirement, manager Low had already confirmed the game against England was his last.

Low announced before the tournament that he would step down as Germany boss after a decade and a half in the set-up. He will be replaced by ex-Bayern manager Hansi Flick.
He told a post-match press conference: ‘In these 15 years there were a lot of positive things, I participated at our home World Cup in 2006 (as assistant coach), we developed further, we won the title in 2014 as the highlight, then Confederations Cup in 2017 with a young team.
