Everton want to sign three-time FA Cup winner in January – report
Everton want to sign Aaron Ramsey in January from Juventus in a bid to bolster their midfield options, according to a report by Eurosport.
The Toffees have had a poor season so far in the Premier League, with just two wins in their last 11 fixtures in the top flight.
Rafa Benitez has struggled to make a real impact as manager while having to navigate with several first-team regulars out with injury and COVID-19 throughout different points of the season.
According to Eurosport, the Blues are interested in bringing Ramsey back to the Premier League after his torrid time in Italy with Juventus, where he has featured just five times this season.
There have been suggestions that the Serie A side would be interested in a swap deal for defender Lucas Digne in January (Tutto Juve), but it’s suggested that Everton would be interested in bringing in Ramsey regardless of Digne’s departure.
EuroSport journalist Dean Jones says Ramsey “will be allowed to leave for a low fee just to get him off the wage bill – or on loan if nothing else has materialised by the end of the window”.
He adds that the ex-Arsenal player is “almost certain to find himself at an English club soon”.
Quality
There is no doubt that Ramsey’s arrival at Goodison Park would be a tremendous boost to the side, with a clear lack of quality in the midfield areas.
Abdoulaye Doucoure has been the best of the midfield options, but he is more of a defensive option than Ramsey and they would balance each other’s strengths out well despite both being box-to-box players.
Ramsey won three FA Cups during his time with Arsenal, scoring in two finals, and has won two league titles with Juventus since joining.
But his energetic and robust style hasn’t really taken well to the Turin side and he has been phased out in favour of players like Manuel Locatelli, Rodrigo Bentancur and Weston McKennie.
If Everton are able to find a deal that would please both Juventus and Ramsey, then bringing Ramsey to Goodison is among the better things they could do in January to try and turn their season around.
